In my opinion there are good surprises and then there are not so good surprises... I am lucky enough to be able to share a wonderful surprise with you right before the holidays! I've been just dying to be a part of capturing an actual proposal in progress... and a couple of weeks ago I got the call. My talented friend/photographer Amanda Fisher called me up and asked for an assist on a gig I knew she was working on for several months. The idea was to follow Greg and Lauren as they picked out their Christmas Tree at Smolak Farm. At some point in time Greg was going to pop the question to Lauren, who was to be unaware of our existence or the ring in his pocket. And then we'd do a stylized engagement session immediately following. This is right up my alley to help out... I mean, photographers often go on Photo-Walks and hang out together... a total no brainer! Oh and I think my ability to act nonchalant is one of my better skills.... ha ha ha
Little did I know how stressful it also is to be a part of surprise. I mean, you don't want to be the one that foils all the work. Luckily we all played our parts and Lauren said yes! I'd do this over and over and over again! Amanda planned everything with antique thermos, sled, and saw. She also thought of mistletoe and ornaments! And without further a-do.... check out the amazing story of Lauren and Greg's proposal!
After the happy emotions, and as the nervous energy subsided for Amanda and me... we were quickly off and running with the Engagement photo shoot! You might wonder, how did Lauren know to be in a dress? If I was going to cut down a tree I'd refuse to wear a dress... but Greg had prepped Lauren that they would get "someone" to take a nice photo of them while they were there. Well played sir, well played!
By this point I was in heaven! Tall grass, happy couple, the light was amazing... yep, I was dreaming!
And I caught this little gem of Amanda having a moment with Lauren and Greg! So glad I was along for this amazing opportunity!
We met back up at the farm because Smolak is more than just a tree farm... there is something for everyone!
On a total side note... does anyone know what that bird is on the bottom left... they were on top of the cages as well as running all over.
